“Sustainability and Equity: A Better Future for All”
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) cordially invites the media to the launch of 2011 Human Development Report(HDR)to be held on Thursday 3 November 2011 at 9.00 am at Apeadu Conference Hall at the UN premises, off Kinondoni Road.
The Human Development Report is published every year with the support of UNDP with a theme that is considered of critical importance for human development. The theme for this year’s report is “Sustainability and Equity”. The 2011 Human Development Report focuses on the challenge of sustainable and equitable progress. A joint lens shows how environmental degradation intensifies inequality through adverse impacts on already disadvantaged people and how inequalities in human development simplify environmental degradation.
The 2011 Report calls for new approaches to global development financing and environmental controls, arguing that these measures are both essential and feasible and that the challenges of sustainability and equity must be addressed together. The Report will also feature the 2011 Human Development Index—a composite measure of health, education and income—and its complementary indices.
The launch will be officiated by Mr. Paniel Lyimo, Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office. It will also feature a panel discussion on the new indices and Tanzania’s progress. The panelists are Dr. S. Likwelile, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Dr. Joseph Semboja, Director, Institute of Sustainable Development and Dr. Hoseana.B. Lunogelo, Executive Director, ESRF
