The World Football governing body, FIFA will organize a seminar on communication in the CECAFA zone from April 30 to May 2 in Dar es salaam City (Tanzania). This seminar will be attended by all communications officers/Directors, FA chairpersons/Presidents and General Secretaries/CEOs from all the Member Associations. The event will be blessed by the FIFA Secretary General, Mr. Jerome Valcke.
1. CECAFA NILE BASIN CUP WINNERS CUP
In an effort to expand club competition in our zone, CECAFA has started the above tournament that will be contested by FA knock-out champions or clubs that finish second in the National League of the Member Associations. The inaugural event is slated for Sudan from May 20-June 5 this year. CECAFA & Sudan FA have already secured full sponsorship that will cater for the air tickets for teams and delegations, accommodation, local transport and prize money.
2. CECAFA-KAGAME CUP
Rwanda will stage this year’s event scheduled for August. As you all know, this is the biggest zonal club Cup competition in Africa. The Champion clubs from all the zonal Federations are expected to attend. Rwanda Head of State and CECAFA Patron, Gen. Paul Kagame has already honored his pledge of USD 60,000prize money. CECFA & Rwanda FA are finalizing all other sponsorship requirements.
3. CECAFA U23 TOURNAMENT
As you realize, the Olympic Games will be staged in 2016 and in an effort to prepare our teams, CECAFA has planned the U23 tournament in September this year in Sudan. The Government of Sudan is providing full sponsorship of the event.
4. CECAFA CHALLENGE CUP
Ethiopia are the designated hosts of this year’s event which we have programmed for late November to mid- December in Addis Ababa. CECAFA delegation will visit Addis Ababa after the World Cup to finalize the necessary arrangements and sponsorships.
5. CECAFA-SUPERSPORT CONTRACT
CECAFA and Super sport have signed a four-year contract that will run from 2014-2017. All our competitions will be covered live by Super Sport throughout this period.
